I am a super avid reader in my down time from LuLaRoe and my family. Reading is the last thing I do before going to sleep each night. I usually read four to six books a month depending on how quickly I can read them. I love discovering new authors and books. There will always be a few books that I will reread and go back to at more than once. If you are an avid reader like me you know how you can have an emotional tie to a book. Some books just stick with you for a lifetime. Keep reading to find out my top five books and why I love them!
My Top Five Books
Number 1: Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
This is one book that I read at least once a year. The story never gets old and I discover new details each time I read it. The characters of Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy are timeless and I can find ways to identify with each of them. Jo will always appeal to my side that craves adventure. Marmee is the voice of reason throughout the book and we all need an influence like her in our life.
Number 2: The Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling
I know who doesn’t love Harry Potter?? I was in high school when the first book came out and I remember each book after and the frenzy associated with the release. Every book store had some sort of release party and activities. This past winter I reread each book and watched the corresponding movie. It was fun to compare the book to the movie! The battle between good and evil is a theme that resonates with everyone. My favorite book from the series is The Prisoner of Azkaban. I love this one because Harry finally has a relationship with someone from his past that loves him.
Number 3: Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells
Historical fiction is probably my favorite genre to read. This book is a great read because it focuses on the mother/daughter relationship. The relationship between Vivi and Sidalee is complicated yet so simplistic. Both characters are so stubborn and refuse to connect at the most basic level. In the end their relationship is mended despite their differences. Plus I love how historical events like the opening of Gone With the Wind are incorporated.
Number 4: Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis
This book has become one of my favorite personal development books. I listened to the audio version first and now I’m reading it. Self development has become a passion of mine over the past year. This book has so much good in it. I love how Rachel Hollis breaks down each chapter and offers little changes you can make to overcome whatever you are dealing with. Seriously pick up this book or listen to her podcast if you have some downtime.
Number 5: Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
Another historical fiction pick! I first read this book before the movie came out. I’m a sucker for books that have been adapted into movies. I love this book because the story is so rich but not too heavy. The story for sure deals with some heavy topics like domestic violence and the Great Depression. I love how the characters develop throughout the story. The main characters Jacob, Marlena, and even Rosie, the elephant are all victims that become stronger by the end of the story. Plus I love elephants!
So those are my top five books to read over and over. I love hearing recommendations for books to read so please leave me one in the comments!
